Introduction to affordability

To safeguard continued access to television for older people and people with disabilities, many of whom are on low incomes, it is important that switching to digital is affordable.

Although the main Irish channels – RTÉ 1 & 2, TV3 and TG4 – will remain free-to-air, the switching off of analogue transmissions in 2012 will enforce a switch to digital for all viewers, requiring them to purchase and install new equipment.
