Argos £15 digibox proves low cost of audio description

A Freeview receiver sold by Argos in the UK for under £15 features audio description. This shows that cost can no longer be considered a barrier to the inclusion of audio description functionality in all DTT receivers.

The product description of the Argos Value LPDV205B Digital Set Top Box does not mention audio description. However, it has been tested by RNIB staff who have  confirmed that it does include audio description which works perfectly.

TV Access have been told in the past that implementation cost is a barrier to including audio description capability within minimum receiver specifications for DTT. This does not now appear to be the case so we will be pressing harder for all DTT receivers to have this capability.
